Animation Studio Release and Storyboard Studio Sale

I have just released Animation Studio for Android. To promote its release, I will have Storyboard Studio on sale throughout the weekend. Here is a little demonstration video I put together over the last week in Animation Studio. The whole video was created inside the app, except for the music. I will be adding audio support in one of the next updates. Enjoy!

I am releasing Animation Studio for Android on Friday. I am really excited about this application. It gives you the ability to create 2D animations and export them to video. It offers some really unique features to assist you in creating animations. These features include:

  • Export to video - Export animations to AVI, FLV (Flash), MP4 (QuickTime), or WMV (Windows Media Player) formats.
  • Import video frames - Import frames from videos to trace over or to add throughout your project.
  • Unlimited layers - Construct multi-layered animations with an infinite number of layers and an unlimited number of frames.
  • Link layers - Link layers between frames, allowing you to preserve static layers and only animate what you need to animate. You can create direct or indirect relationships, allowing you to change content across multiple scenes simultaneously.
  • Camera - Define the camera’s position, rotation or zoom, separate from the frame. This gives you the ability to add non-destructive camera movement without messing with the individual elements of a scene.
  • Add images or cutouts - You can import pictures from your gallery, your camera, or cutout pieces from a scene to save to a clipboard for later use.
  • Onion skinning - To help illustrate the motion of the scene, you can toggle on the onionskin feature to see the previous layers and next layer.
  • Clipboard - Cutout elements from a scene and save them to a clipboard for later use or to share between your projects.
  • Track bar – This helps you view all of the frames and layers of your animation, making it easier to navigate, and letting you scrub through your animation seamlessly.
  • Dedicated Workflow – Animation Studio is strictly designed for animation. This gives you all the tools you need to help you create beautiful animations.

I will be creating a demo animation over the next few days. I am also adding in some new features to Storyboard Studio, including the ability to clip content to a clipboard and a paint bucket to fill in an area with color. After that, I will be focusing on stabilizing Infinite Painter and Infinite Design.

I will be cutting off the 3-day sale today at 12pm CST. Thank you for all of the great feedback and positive reception from the last update. I will be pushing out an update for Storyboard Studio later today as well. Here are some of the highlights of the update:

  • Improved UI and speed.
  • Redesigned arrows to represent more specific actions.
  • Added 40 new actor cutouts. These are silhouettes of real people.
  • Fixed image importing on various devices.
  • Replaced color wheel with the new Color Manager, offering swatch support and color history.
  • Added the ability to access the eyedropper by pulling out of the color button for a more fluid workflow.
  • Added Object Layers.
  • Added Select Tool. This will let you select between the different layers and objects, keeping you from having to jump back and forth between the layers bar and the canvas.
  • Export individual scenes as JPEG, PNG, or PSD (all your layers).
  • Added ability to export all of your scenes to PSD. This places a scene on each layer.

As mentioned in the previous post, I will be bringing a series of apps out during the first half of this year to focus on certain artistic workflows. As of right now, here are certain artistic communities I'd like to focus on:

  • Photo Editing
  • Animation (frame-by-frame and cutout animation)
  • Comic/Manga
  • Character Design
  • Fashion Design
  • Collage
  • Sculpting
  • Tile Design (patterns, tiles, and tesselation)

If any of these are apps that you would be interested in then please let me know. Your feedback is a great inspiration and can help me decide on what I should focus on first. If you have other suggestions then please email me, and I'd be glad to consider them.

I have just published the first of a series of apps planned for the first half of this year which will focus on various artistic workflows. The basic idea is that there are many types of artists with all sorts of different needs. Instead of cluttering Infinite Design and Infinite Painter with these tools and features, I will be bringing focused workflows, studios, to these artists. The first app in the Studio series is Storyboard Studio. It lets you create multiple scenes fluidly, offering tools for both artists and non-artists, and letting you export your scenes in a variety of different formats.

Check it out HERE.

Thank you for all of your support and patience. I'm pretty sure I have fixed most of the bugs out of Infinite Painter's new tile-based system. I appreciate all of your feedback and emails. Infinite Painter has taken third place in Samsung's Smart App Challenge. I am very thankful to Samsung for hosting such an awesome event. As many users have already requested, I have started on a large update for Infinite Design which will include a new Project Manager start-up screen, a Help Center, the new Arc Menu (featured in Infinite Painter), and a slew of other improvements based on user feedback. Please be patient as I work on this new update. As for other news, I have a few other projects proliferating. These projects include a new keyboard for smart phones, a photo-editor, and a note-aking application. When these projects become closer to release, I will be posting more information on them.

I am nearly finished with the update for Infinite Painter. I am still working out some of the issues with the new tile-based system and the current layers framework. I was hoping to have the update out this week, but I'm afraid I will have to postpone it for next week. I want to make sure all of the features work nicely with the new tile-system. The update is very large. I am totally rebuilding the undo/redo system, and adding the ability to create very large paintings. I am also adding in a help center to soften the learning curve for new users. I appreciate your patience and your continual support.

Happy Halloween, everyone! I have an exciting new project coming that I should be releasing in the next week or so. It's a new keyboard for android, called Typno. I am also working on a major update for Infinite Painter. This is a really exciting update which will add a new tile-based rendering system to the application. I am still in the process of performance tuning and making sure the new feature works well in the current framework. This will transform the application to a whole new level. If all goes well, I should have the update out at the beginning of next week. After that, I will be finishing up another large update for Infinite Design. These updates should be a real treat for all of you designers, so keep a look out.

Hey guys, I just finished another update for Infinite Painter. In the update, I redesigned the Oil Brush and replaced the pencil brushes which were causing jagged lines with five new brushes (Sprayer, Rake, Chalk, Graphic Pen, and Fur). I have also added two new finger treatments for S-Pen users (Disable Finger and Move Canvas). The update also includes a new saving format which allows you to save your layers in a multi-page TIFF document. This will preserve your layers separately, and it can be opened by programs like Gimp for further editing. But the greatest feature of all, is the ability to create your own brushes with the new Brush Creator. Let me know what you guys think and enjoy!

I just finished the update for Infinite Painter. It allows you to change the canvas size in the Settings, I also polished the UI to match Infinite Design's new UI. I have added in Layer Blend Modes, Guides (to help you create elliptical curves or straight lines), and integrated Inspire Stream. Inspire Stream will allow users to search popular websites for images, upload images or build custom galleries of images to help spark their creativity. Over the next week, I will be reworking some of the brushes for both Infinite Design and Infinite Painter. I will also be integrating Inspire Stream into Infinite Design as well. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on brushes you'd like to see.

Hey guys, I just finished the update for Infinite Design. The update includes a new Pen Tool which allows you to create and edit a path simultaneously, path editing, a redesigned menu bar with text below each button to help you find what you are looking for faster. I have redesigned image importing, Guides, and moved the Shapes feature to the menu bar. I have also added a new button to the bottom controls which displays the current style you are using. You can also import SVG documents into Infinite Design for viewing or editing, making the application even more integrated into your workflow. And to cap it off, I made the Brush Picker more visual to make brush selection more intuitive. This update is a very robust one with lots of changes so let me know what you think. Now, I'll be working on one for Infinite Painter. This update will include the ability to choose the canvas size. I am also adding in the newly designed Guides so that it makes it easier to create straight lines and smooth curves. I will also be adding in two new brushes. It also fixes two concerns made by various users: picking a color from a bottom layer and blending over multiple layers. It should be out by the end of the weekend so keep a look out.

Infinite Design users, I am working on a major update that will be out at the beginning of next week. The update will focus on redesigning and simplifying the design process by weaning away from the complex menu system that it has now. It will also offer a Bezier Curve Tool. Besides simplifying the overall experience, I have also taken the time to overhaul some of the confusing features such as the Guides. They will be much easier to use and understand. I am really excited about these changes and look forward to hearing your feedback. The update will also include the ability import SVG documents, and I am working on connecting it with Dropbox so that users can work on the same project on the go or at home without having to transfer the files manually. This is a very large update and I appreciate all your support. Keep up the amazing work!

I have just launched this site, so some parts of this site are still under construction. The Gallery will be linked to both Infinite Painter and Infinite Design in their next updates which should be out by the end of the week so it will be a little bare to start out with. Hope you enjoy.
